Footway Closure - Sutton Road

Published: 16 April 2024

West Berkshire Council’s contractor, Volker Highways Ltd in conjunction with Colas will shortly be commencing this year’s Footway Improvement Programme.

Footway preservation (Micro-surfacing) is a preventative maintenance process, this is a thin surfacing which is aimed at weatherproofing and strengthening the existing footway to ensure the footway condition does not deteriorate further. The nature of the material will not leave a completely smooth finish. This process removes the need to dig out and replace the existing footway, which is structurally sound and significantly reduces the cost and the carbon emissions. It is therefore better for the environment and ensures our available budgets can be maximised.

The work will be carried out with footway closures in Sutton Road between the hours of 08:00-17:00 for four days commencing on Friday 18th June 2024. This is necessary to enable the safe completion of the works in accordance with current Health and Safety Regulations.

Every effort will be made to maintain access to private properties and businesses directly adjacent to the works; although, due to the nature of the treatment some inconvenience will be inevitable, but we will endeavour to keep this to an absolute minimum.

To enable the programme of work to be completed in a timely manner, it is essential that vehicles are not parked on the footway. West Berkshire Council respectfully ask that you find somewhere else to park your vehicle while the work is on-going – Please help us by moving your vehicle accordingly.
