Highway Improvement Works - Old Bath Road
Published: 03 March 2025
West Berkshire Council’s (WBC) term maintenance contractor Volker Highways will soon be starting highway improvement works along Old Bath Road in Newbury between A4 Western Avenue and Leys Gardens.
The scheme includes footway improvements and pedestrian crossing upgrades, which will connect to the active travel scheme installed on A4 Western Avenue in 2022.
To undertake these works safely a series of footway closures are required with a short diversion in place and temporary pedestrian crossings on Old Bath Road to allow free movement to/from A4 Western Avenue, Goldwell Park and Newbury Town Centre. There will also be the requirement to close a short section of Old Bath Road to remove and upgrade the existing pedestrian central island close to the Speen Lane Foot bus stop.
The project is scheduled to start on 19th March 2025 and continue through to April 2025 between the hours of 08:00 and 17:00 Monday - Friday. Road closures will be in place with temporary traffic lights and footway closures will be in place with temporary crossings along Old Bath Road.
